Town Complete Home Games With Pulsating Match (Wednesday 23rd April 08)

The Robins completed their home fixtures with a cracking game against league runners-up Dawlish Town. Frome fell behind after 10 minutes before an own goal by Simon Laughton handed Frome an equaliser after 23 minutes. Dawlish gave themselves an advantage going into the break to lead 2-1 but a half-time team talk, or something in the half-time drink, changed Frome's fortunes as wave after wave of attacks were repelled by the visitors defence. Frome certainly took the game to their visitors and got a deserved equaliser 2 minutes into stoppage time at the end of the game through leading scorer Mark Salter. The Club wish to thank their fans and sponsors for their support during the home campaign.

Chairman Hits Back At Fan Reaction (Monday 14th April 08)

Club Chairman Gavin Hares has hit back at those supporters who decided to boo on Saturday when the Robins opened the scoring against Ilfracombe at Badgers Hill. He said of the behaviour: "The first team are well placed for a possible top three position in the league following the win over Ilfracombe. There however happens to be a small minority of fans who feel it necessary to express their feelings by booing the team when Toby Colbourne broke his duck with the opening goal of the game. This is something that the Management Committee and the vast majority of supporters were shocked and disappointed to hear. There is no need to name those people as they, and everybody else, knows who they are and it is extremely disconcerting when we have younger players coming through from the Reserves and will be looking to attract potential new signings in the summer. I don't think anybody would blame them for thinking twice about joining a club whose own supporters boo's its players when they are winning! We as a Club do not condone this unacceptable behaviour and nor are we classing all of our fans in the same way - everybody knows its a very small minority - unfortunately it's those few that are spoiling it for the rest of the Club."

Colbourne Off Mark In Ilfracombe Win (Saturday 12th April 08)

Toby Colbourne finally broke his goalscoring duck after notching the opening goal in the Robins 3-0 home win over Ilfracombe Town.   Chairman Quashes Untrue Rumours (Thursday 27th March 08)

Chairman Gavin Hares has quashed the rumours spreading around the town and the area that Frome Town have lined up and agreed terms on a new Manager to replace Andy Crabtree for the 2008/09 season. Gavin said: "The rumours going around are 100% untrue - we haven't spoken to, agreed terms with or even discussed a change in the management team of Frome Town. Andy has the full support of the Officers and Committee of the Club and we are happy with they way that Andy and Lloyd Chamberlain (Reserve Team manager) are running things. Rumours like these can unsettle both the players and management team and we just want them to concentrate on having a good end to the season and then allow Andy to look and build what he believes is needed for next season. Frome Town don't operate like the rumours are suggesting and if there had been a problem Andy would have been the first to know about it".

Call To Arms Answered By Robins Legends (Thursday 27th March 08)

With the Reserves squad numbers dwindling Lloyd Chamberlain sent an S.O.S. message to several former Robins hero's to help the side out in their battle against relegation. Signing on are Paul Thorpe, Tony Pounder, Mark Ford and Leon Kelly along with 20 year old midfielder Dan Thompson who is a former Yeovil Town player just returning from injury. Lloyd was delighted as they signed on: "We need some experience going into the run-in till the end of the season and for these people to sign on to help out just goes to show how good some people can be when a call to arms is issued. They want to help the Club out after serving us for so many years and hopefully they could be the difference between staying up and getting relegated. Although we are positive we can get out of it".

Town Complete Top Signing As Cover (Thursday 27th March 08)

The giant defender started his career at Norwich City before returning to the Bristol area and played for Bath City, Mangotsfield United, Clevedon Town and Chippenham Town before moving onto Tivvy where he was appointed as Club Captain. Club Secretary Ian Pearce said of the signing: "Nathan has joined us purely as cover as we have a mounting injury and suspension issue at the Club. Hopefully he will be able to play whenever Tiverton don't have a game and as they finish earlier than us it would be nice to think he might get more than a solitary appearance. Its somewhat a coup for Andy Crabtree and thanks also goes to 'keeper Richard Fey whose helped set this deal up". Welcome to the Club Rudgie.

Town Claim Deserved Away Win (Tuesday 25th March 08)

Frome Town deservedly picked up three points on their travels at one of their usual 'bogey' grounds at Bremhill View, Calne. The Robins had more of the play in the opening period without really testing the home 'keeper but the second half saw Frome up their game and the winning goal arrived with 25 minutes left as Toby Colbourne released Simeon Allison down the left and his low cross was turned home by Mark Salter. The game also saw manager Andy Crabtree give three promising Reserve team players their chance to impress with Jack Metcalf completing the second half at right back in place of the injured Adamo Missiato as well as appearances for Simon Millard and James Rustell. The win lifts the Robins back up to fifth place and now they have five home games to close the gap on those above them.

Steve Ball gave Frome hope again as he netted from close range but with the last kick of the game Bridgy completed the scoring.

Salts Hat-Trick Earns Derby Point (Friday 21st March 08)

Frome Town fought back from 3-1 down in their Easter local derby at Radstock Town to earn a point in one of the most incident packed games of the season. Frome took the lead with an outstanding effort from Mark Salter but then lost midfielder Joe Gomes with a knee injury following a late tackle on the touchline. Radstock equalised through Damien Preece and then James Billing put them ahead from the penalty spot. Clinton Wilson scored the third against the run of play but it spurred the Robins on with substitute Simon Millard instrumental playing on the right wing in place of Gomes. The youngsters excellent near post cross saw Salter nip in ahead of the home 'keeper to score and then brought the scores level from the penalty spot following a handball. The Robins were without Matt Peters (work), Luke Clarke (injured) and Sam Duggan (suspension) for the game but Millard, Dean Caslake (on his debut) and Jack Metcalf looked more than capable of stepping up from the Reserves in their place as they look to cement a regular place in the First Team squad.

Reserves Held In Entertaining Encounter (Saturday 15th March 08)

James Rustell gave Frome the lead after 13 minutes after the visiting 'keeper had gifted him the ball and he lofted the ball into the empty net from 25 yards. The equaliser arrived before the break through Paul Payne before Quelch went on to save his side on several occasions with one in particular impressive at full stretch to deny a clear cut goalscoring opportunity. The game was played in heavy rain and congratulations goes to both sides on providing an entertaining game which was played in the right spirit throughout.

Frome Town narrowly lost out on pulling off a giant killing act in the Somerset Premier Cup after losing 2-1 against Yeovil Town at Badgers Hill. The massive crowd of over 600 took everybody by surprise and generated a cracking atmosphere that saw the Robins compete well in a first half that saw Yeovil field a very strong line-up. The decisive moment of the game arrived right on the stroke of half-time as Jamie Cheeseman was red carded, on his 100th appearance for the Club, for deliberate hand ball. Wales Under 21 international Simon Church stepped up to hammer home the resulting penalty. Former Millwall winger Marvin Williams notched a second before Sam Duggan pulled one back with a magnificent finish right at the end. Congratulations goes to all the players on a fantastic performance and to the people of Frome for turning up to cheer their town on - it goes to show the potential and interest is there for the Club to progress.

Reserves Lose By Solitary Goal (Tuesday 4th March 08)

Frome Town Reserves lost against relegation rivals Glastonbury Town for the second time in two weeks with a single goal defeat at the Abbey Moor Stadium. The Robins played well throughout and created numerous chances but were thwarted by the impressive Tom Punchard in the home goal. The custodian was first called into action after 28 minutes as he tipped over a fantastic 35 yard effort from Chris Bone that appeared to be destined for the back of the net and then he saved well from a Toby Colbourne header. Ed Quelch did well to deny Dan Badman and Matt Seaward before Punchard again thwarted attempts from Barry Sanquest and James Rustell with fantastic saves. After the interval Simon Millard was the next to be stopped by the home 'keeper. Frome were always looking the more dangerous of the sides but with 20 minutes left a harmless cross by Robbie Turner was spilled by Quelch and Badman pounced from close range for the decisive goal. With 10 minutes to go Lloyd Chamberlain introduced Gary Lewis in the search for the important equaliser but Frome couldn't find a way past Punchard as the Robins fell another three points behind their rivals.

Mark Salter reduced the arrears with another dubious penalty but Mudge struck again in identical fashion to make the game safe. Substitute Luke Clarke added a second deep into stoppage time but it was too little too late as the Robins crashed out.

Reserves Earn Valuable Home Point (Wednesday 27th February 08)

The Reserves earned a valuable home point against Cleeve West Town and in truth should have won the game after looking the more dangerous throughout. The game kicked off 15 minutes late due to the away side turning up just before the scheduled kick-off and with Joe Gomes, Luke Clarke and Dean Griffiths included in the line-up Frome were intent on getting important points in their battle against relegation. It took just 2 minutes for Frome to take the lead as Joe Gomes fired home a cracking drive from the outside the area giving Jamie Farmiloe no chance. Poor defensive play gave Cleeve their equaliser after 15 minutes but then Frome continued to push forward with Simon Millard unlucky to see his great shot smash against the post and a long range Gomes effort flew wide. Griffiths was upended in the box with convincing appeals waived away before Cleeve felt they should have had a penalty for hand-ball. All in all it was a point gained against the third placed side.

Salter restored a deserved lead before the break but the second half then produced a cracking affair. The game turned on its head within five minutes as Sam Duggan was harshly red carded and within seconds Bideford were level. A mistake by Jamie Cheeseman in midfield saw the Devonians take the lead for the first time but then Toby Colbourne set up Alex Lapham who sent the ball high into the net to earn a well deserved point.

Reserves Beaten By Glastonbury (Saturday 23rd February 08)

The Reserves continue to be at the wrong end of the County Premier Division table after a 2-0 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Glastonbury Town. The visitors had a goal ruled out after 14 minutes when a long range free-kick was floated over 'keeper Ed Quelch before Dean Caslake had the Robins first chance but he put Jack Metcalf's cross over the bar. Brendon Davies gave Glastonbury the lead from the penalty spot after 20 minutes and just before the half-time break Adam Cribb scored a final individual goal to beat Quelch at his near post.  Frome struggled to create chances during the whole game and they had to be grateful to Quelch for keeping the score down with an outstanding reaction save towards the end of the game. The team are next in action on Wednesday night with another home game as Cleeve West visit Badgers Hill.

Robins On Song In Comfortable Victory (Saturday 16th February 08)

Mark Salter opened the scoring with a close range header following an overhead kick by Jon Crowley to set him up. Hallen equalised with a disputed goal with the Frome team convinced a hand was used in the build-up to the goal. Right on the stroke of half-time Matt Peters regained the lead for the Robins and then Dean Griffiths hammered home a cracking strike to make it 3-1. Salter had a goal disallowed before finally notching his second of the game. Hallen had the last word however when a defensive mix-up gifted the visitors their second.

Andy Crabtree was delighted with the signing: "Ryan is a local lad and coming to us will help him develop by playing at a good standard in adult football. He plays in midfield and he was more than happy to sign on. I've spoken to John Clayton (BCFC Academy Manager) who has helped set the deal up and we are looking forward to Ryan putting on a Frome shirt". Subject to clarification of his registration he will go straight into the squad for the game against Hallen tomorrow.

Reserves Win Second Game On The Bounce (Wednesday 13th February 08)

The Reserves completed their second win in as many matches with an excellent 2-0 home victory over a good Taunton Blackbrook side. Boosted with the inclusion of Adamo Missiato, Toby Colbourne and Simeon Allison the Robins took the lead after 22 minutes as a Simon Millard corner wasn't cleared and Dean Caslake's long range effort was deflected into the path of James Rustell who fired home from close range for his first goal for the Club. Frome felt they should have had a penalty just before the break as Allison was upended but nothing was given. Frome's impressive defence of Ben Turner, Jake Antell and Jason Collier kept the visitors at bay in the second half but the team had 'keeper Ed Quelch to thank for keeping them ahead with a fantastic finger tip save from a rasping Chris Curtis drive. The game was finally wrapped up in injury time as Missiato's free kick was spilled by 'keeper Wayne Lawrence and Barry Sandquest did just enough to give Colbourne the chance to smash the ball home from just inside the area. It was an excellent performance by the young Robins and with Andy Crabtree watching on from the dugout the future of the Club indeed looks promising with some good players coming through the ranks.

Frome Town are hopeful that the long running search for a Commercial Manager may be nearing an end having approached Tim Penwell about the position after hearing of Tim's recent resignation from Southern League Premier Division side Chippenham Town in the local press. Tim was extremely successful as Commercial Manager with the Bluebirds and if negotiations lead to a favourable outcome (as we hope they will) the Club believe that Tim will be a welcome and important addition to Frome Town.

Ladies Launch Under 12's Team With Win (Sunday 20th January 08)

Frome Town Ladies newly formed Under 12's side got off to a great start in the Somerset League by beating Shepton Mallet 5-1 yesterday. The team is run by two of the clubs senior players in Lauren Rustell and Steph Isaacson who have both taken their level one badges. Frome took an early lead as Emma Upshall won the ball on the left and her cross saw Emma Miles score. Charlotte Sullivan then added a second from 25 yards before notching the third, and her second, before the break. Shepton worked hard to get back into the match but the defensive duo of Nieve Edwards and Laura Didymus dealt with anything that was thrown at them. Goalkeeper Kathleen Waterhouse made several fine saves before finally being beaten but  Sullivan completed her hat-trick and in the last minute May Bristow converted a penalty to complete the scoring. With talent and coaching at this level the future of FTLFC looks promising.

Mase Departs For Manor Farm (Friday 18th January 08)

Winger Steve Mason has left Badgers Hill to sign for Toolstation Premier Division side Bristol Manor Farm after Andy Crabtree waived the seven day approach for his services: "Steve has been patient in trying to win his place back in the First Team squad and played a handful of games for the Reserves but Manor Farm can offer him regular football. We couldn't keep asking him to drive a long distance as he was for nothing and he lives right next to the Creek so it's ideal for him. He was my first signing for Frome Town and I wish him well for the future". Steve was formerly at Clevedon Town and Bishop Sutton and went on to make 38 appearances for the First Team and scored two goals.

Robins Dominate In Manor Farm Victory (Saturday 12th January 08)

Frome Town picked up three more points with a convincing 3-0 win at Bristol Manor Farm in a game that would have seen a much higher final result if it hadn't been for former Robins 'keeper Ali Hines. A double from Dean Griffiths and one from Alex Lapham gave Frome a 3-0 lead after just 25 minutes before Hines produced a string of fine saves. The game, which had been played in a good spirit then finished on a sour note with four red cards in the last four minutes. First Troy Simpson was shown a straight red for a dangerous late tackle on Mark Salter and then Jamie Cheeseman and John Pugsley were given their marching orders after becoming involved in a scuffle. The aftermath of the same incident saw another Manor Farm played sent for an early shower with Dominic Graffagnino also dismissed leaving the hosts to finish the game with just 8 men. Frome more than deserved their win with 'keeper Ed Quelch bouncing back from the previous week's defeat against Welton Rovers by keeping a clean sheet.

Ladies Start New Year With Heavy Defeat (Sunday 6th January 08)

The ladies had a bad start to 2008 with a 10-1 home defeat at the hands of a very good Luton Town side. Frome gave a starting debut to one of three new signings in Sharifa James but within 2 minutes of the start the visitors nipped in to open the scoring. It was 2-0 after 10 minutes and then a combination of Amy Edwards and Alice Starr prevented the team falling further behind. Luton extended their lead before the break with a simple goal but the floodgates opened in the second half. Goals in the 50th, 52nd and 65th minute gave the Hatters a 6-0 lead before former Bristol Rovers player James set Cassie Powell through who rounded the 'keeper to score a consolation goal. Manager Nick Parsons introduced two more former Bristol Rovers players in Kim Rimmer and Rachel Hawkins but things went from bad to worse as Luton went on to score four more times to complete a bad afternoon for the Frome ladies. The teams cause hasn't been helped this season with a string of injuries and unavailability and that has been added to with midfielder Kirsty Whitton missing the next 12 months with a cruciate knee injury and striker Mel Sartain missing with an injury as well.

Double Boost With New Signing & Player Staying (Friday 4th January 08)

Andy Crabtree has completed the signing of former Tiverton Town winger Luke Clarke. The attacking midfielder started out at Roman Glass St George before moving onto Mangotsfield United and Bitton before joining Tivvy at the start of this season. Work commitments made playing at Southern League Premier Division difficult for the Bristol based player and just before Christmas rejoined Roman Glass. Crabtree had to fight off interest from Bristol Manor Farm and Taunton Town to secure his signature and subject to the paperwork being completed and received by the Western League in time he goes straight into the squad for Saturday's home game against Welton Rovers. The news of the arrival of the new player was the second bit of good news for the Frome Manager after striker Dean Griffiths confirmed he wished to remain with the Robins rather than making a transfer to Manor Farm. The Club are delighted with both bits of news and we welcome Luke to Badgers Hill.

Ranger Ends Stay At The Hill (Friday 4th January 08)

He went on to make 158 appearances and scored twice during his time with the Club. Andy Crabtree said of the tough decision: "Dean wants to play first team football and I wish him luck as he has been a great servant to Frome Town. He's a good lad and deserves better than what I can offer him at the moment".

He said of his leaving: "I have not taken this decision lightly and of course wish the Club well for the future and will gladly volunteer again if my circumstances change". Secretary Ian Pearce said of the latest departure: "We would like to thank Gary for all he has done since being in post. Gary was listed as our Welfare Officer and this is a position that we need to fill very quickly due to a change of rules within football that require all Clubs to have somebody appointed and trained in that role within the next couple of months otherwise we won't be able to play any form of football next season as you won't be allowed to affiliate to your County FA. Along with still needing a Commercial Manager obviously the Welfare Officer post is critical. The work load for this post should be minimal after the initial setting up of systems". In the summer the Club are also set to lose the long serving gateman Bill Harding after announcing his retirment. If there is anybody interested in joining the Club in any of the vacant positions please contact Ian by emailing: frometownfc@btinternet.com

Robins Dominate But Are Held By Rovers (Tuesday 11th December 07)

Frome Town had to settle for a point from their local derby at Welton Rovers on a freezing cold night in a game they dominated. Tristan Westlake made a stunning save to deny Mark Salter early on but it took until the 72nd minute for the returning Simeon Allison to break the deadlock with a well taken finish. With just 10 minutes left the hosts grabbed an equaliser as Dean Evans curled home a cracking goal from the left edge of the area to give Ed Quelch no chance. Congratulations must go to both sets of players for putting on an entertaining game in difficult conditions.
